History

Ashton Clarke Pressed Metal Designs began a historic community in Ontario, Canada. Utilizing handcrafted methods from the turn-of-the-century Arts and Crafts movement, we have reproduced the very best of the original decorative metal tin panels, stamped metal ceilings,
which were used extensively in this period as wall and ceiling panels.

The original Wunderlich panels were produced in Germany from about 1880 to the start of the 2nd World War. Production stopped as the tin used in the panels became hard to obtain. These panels had been installed in historic buildings all over the world, from Hong Kong and China to Australia and South America. The rebirth of the industry came in response to the need to restore many of these historic buildings to their former glory. Increasingly, architects and designers are appreciating the style and beauty of these products and are using them in contemporary settings as well.

These panels, historically made of tin, can now be found in aluminum which now gives them qualities that enhance their ability to be used in a multitude of applications. They are extremely strong and yet lightweight, so that they can be shipped, handled and installed easily.

These new aluminum panels are also rustproof, fireproof, mildew proof, and hypoallergenic. Original designs can be replicated to replace a vintage ceiling or select one of existing featured styles. The panel can be installed over existing ceilings or applied in new buildings. Many builders have used pressed metal as a replacement to drywall, as it is easier to install and offers many other benefits. They can also be produced in copper, galvanized steel or tin, if desired.

We also specialize in the installation of these panels. Please contact us for more information.
